How To Write The Perfect College Admission Essay Each of our member schools works to make college affordable and ensures students graduate on time. Using MyCoalition, students can begin exploring colleges and compiling personal and school-related achievements as early as ninth grade. As a writer, a personal essayist no less, I admire the craft and precision of the personal essay, the skill of taking one’s life and carefully dissecting and portraying it in a way that moves someone else. This is a wonderful skill, but not one I believe is applicable in this day and age of college admissions. I cover all aspects of college, transfer, prep school, grad school, scholarship, and medical school application essay writing. While finding the appropriate college match for each student is our goal, we hope to build skills that will serve our students beyond their college years. In their Junior year, students arrange individual meetings with the college counselors to devise a testing plan and to receive direction in their college search. Senior year counseling involves specific guidance in navigating the application process. In keeping with Windward’s nurturing community, our College Counseling program aims to guide students and their families step-by-step through the complexities of the college process. Sessions are held in person , and remotely by Zoom, Skype, and FaceTime around the world. I provide personalized, one-on-one instruction designed to make your essay shine. Our college counselors steer students toward discovering college environments and learning communities best suited for individual talents and goals. Our goal is to create a culture that focuses not on a school’s ranking, but rather upon how each institution meets the individual needs of our graduates. As we prepare students to leave Windward and move toward college and beyond, we strive to help them achieve and maintain balanced lives. Windward’s oldest students have more autonomy as they navigate their academics and other commitments, and they are treated as young adults. Having her accountable to someone else besides her Mom was a motivating factor. She was happy to have completed her essay over the summer and gotten an early leg up on the application process. Some of her friends have not even completed essays yet never mind applying to colleges. We'll brainstorm topics, create a structure, develop drafts, and polish the essay. In the process, I'll teach writing techniques that showcase the student's personality, create an effective narrative, and help the essay come to life. The Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, provides students the right to inspect their records. This includes letters of recommendation submitted in the application process. However, we find that letters written in confidence are most useful in assessing a candidate’s qualifications and promise. By using the Reference Letter Request Form, you are automatically waiving your right. Windward School joins with Brentwood School, Crossroads, and Marlborough to present this workshop for 11th Grade students and parents. The workshop is an opportunity for you and your parents to learn more about the different components of the college application and the often-complicated admission process. Admissions officers from more than 40 colleges and universities join us for this program. The Seminar program provides students in the Collegiate Division with choice as they learn the life skills necessary for independence. The College Counseling team works with students and their families to ensure an understanding of each step of the college application and the importance of finding the right match in the college process. Collegiate students are encouraged to be problem solvers, to advocate for themselves with support from the division team, and to take intellectual risks as they explore the choices available to them. Outside of the classroom, Collegiate students take on new responsibilities and leadership roles in clubs, on teams, in student government and peer counseling/mentorship, and in the arts.
